TEXT ME

GET HOME
BECAUSE EVERYONE DESERVES TO FEEL SAFE AT NIGHT.

THE STORY
BEHIND
THE WALK
“Text me when you get home” is a sentence passed between women every night. Not because it’s polite - but because it’s necessary.
I’m Casey, a Perth local, and like most girls, I learnt the rules early.
Wait for your brother to walk home from school.
Never leave the nightclub alone.
Hold your keys between your fingers when you walk.
Call someone so you are not really alone.
If you see someone ahead of you, cross the road.
These were not warnings. They were instructions. And they were normal.
I have been followed. I have been yelled at. I have felt that stomach drop that tells you something is wrong. I have lived overseas and I have lived in Perth, and the rules apply everywhere. As I have gotten older, I have realised it does not matter where you live or how old you are.
Women adapt their lives around safety from the moment we are old enough to walk alone.
I am passionate about women’s safety because walking at night feels like the bare minimum.
I am also deeply passionate about education. I grew up with very basic sexual education. The day I learnt I had a vagina was the same day I learnt about the menstrual cycle. I was 13 and it all happened in one hour. I remember my teacher dropping a tampon into a glass of water and I asked her, will that hurt. She laughed and said, do not worry love you will be sticking bigger things up there.
I did not understand what she meant.
Young people deserve better education, safer conversations and the chance to understand their bodies without shame or confusion. That is why I have chosen to fundraise for We Are WM.
THIS WALK EXISTS
TO ASK
ONE
SIMPLE
QUESTION:
Why is safety after dark still not equally experienced?
ABOUT
THE
WALK
From sunset on 7 March 2026 to sunrise on 8 March 2026, I will walk the Boorloo Bridge to Narrows Bridge loop, tracing the Swan River through the night and finishing as we step into International Women’s Day.
This walk represents a reality many women know all too well - the feeling of not being able to walk home safely at night.
It reflects the everyday precautions women take:
sharing their live location
holding keys between their fingers
calling someone on the walk home
sending the familiar message:
“Text me when you’re home.”
This fundraiser is not about fear. It is about awareness, empathy, and change.
We walk to start conversations about why safety is not experienced equally - and why education is essential in changing this reality.
This walk is a symbol of solidarity, of listening, and of our commitment to creating a future where “text me when you’re home” is no longer necessary.
WHY
I AM WALKING
